If you chip a tooth or develop serious discomfort suddenly, then this may be a dental emergency. We can repair teeth and offer our patients emergency care. In today’s blog, we’re going to talk about what you can do to address the injury before seeing us for treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Emergencies
Question: What do I do if I knock a tooth out?
Answer: First, don’t panic! Pick the tooth up by the crown, don’t touch the roots. You can rinse the tooth under running water to get rid of dirt and debris (but try not to remove tissue). The, place the tooth back into the socket and bite down gently to hold in place in route to our office. You can also place the tooth in a glass of milk.
Question: Should I see you for a chipped tooth?
Answer: Yes! Even minor damage could lead to cavities and infection over time. Try to pick up any pieces of the tooth you can and bring them with you. If you can’t, we can still repair the tooth. If you experience bleeding, use a cloth or piece of gauze to stem it. You can also place a cold compress against the side of your face to reduce swelling.
Question: What if something is stuck between my teeth?
Answer: If you have something stuck between your teeth that causes discomfort, only use floss to try and dislodge it. Anything else could damage your gums.
Question: Are toothaches cause for alarm?
Answer: If you have a toothache that doesn’t subside after several hours, you should see us. This could be a sign of decay or other problem requiring treatment! If you have any questions about addressing emergency problems, then contact our team today.
