How Does Invisalign® Correct Uneven Smiles?

If you have teeth that are crowded, crooked, or overlapping, then you’ll be happy to know that metal brace are no longer your only treatment option. Instead, we can help correct smiles with a series of custom-made and clear plastic aligners. Let’s take a look at how Invisalign corrects uneven smiles.

Invisalign® vs. Braces

Instead of using metal brackets and wires, we will take detailed impressions of your smile, as well as x-rays and photographs. We will send these materials to a special Invisalign lab, where experts will create a series of aligners from a BPA-free plastic material. Once you receive them, you will wear a set every day for about 20 to 23 hours, removing them only for meals, brushing and flossing, and special occasions. About every two weeks you will upgrade to a new set as your teeth are repositioned. Total treatment will vary, but typically takes between a year and 18 months.

Benefits of Clear Aligners

  • They are clear, so no negative impact on your smile’s appearance
  • They fit comfortably and help you avoid cheek or gum irritation (common with braces)
  • You can remove them before meals, so you don’t need to alter your diet
  • You can also remove them when brushing and flossing, which makes caring for your smile easier
  • Treatment is shorter than when wearing metal braces
  • Fewer office visits required
