Frequently Asked Questions About Take Home Whitening
Question: Why does my smile become stained?
Answer: Stains can form due to exposure to drinks with dark pigments (such as soda, red wine, coffee, and tea), cigarettes or other tobacco products, and plaque buildup (caused by poor oral hygiene and/or sugary foods and rinks). We will assess the cause and severity of your discoloration in order to choose the best cosmetic solution.
Question: How does take home whitening work?
Answer: We create a set of custom-made trays and prescribe a powerful peroxide-based bleaching gel. The patient takes these items home and each day fills the trays with the gel. The patient wears the gel-filled trays for about a half hour to 45 minutes a day. Over the course of one to two weeks, teeth can brightened by multiple shades.
Question: Can anyone benefit from this treatment?
Answer: Most cases of discoloration form on the surface of the teeth, also known as extrinsic stains. Our take home whitening kit can easily remove these stains. However, intrinsic stains, which form below the enamel, may require veneers to dental bonding to mask.
Question: Can I take steps to keep my teeth bright?
Answer: Following treatment you can help your new results last by brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing every night before bed. You should also have your teeth cleaned every six months and avoid smoking.
