Two Warning Signs It’s Time for Restorative Dentistry

Warning Signs Restorative Dentistry Is NeededAre you worried that your teeth may have become damaged to the point that they require restorative dentistry? There are actually a number of reasons your smile could be in need of restoration. Injury, chips, cavities, and other problems commonly cause patients to seek restorative dentistry. There are a number of treatment options, as well, ranging from simple dental fillings to more invasive measures, like root canal treatment. There are a number of modern restorative treatment options available to help restore teeth that have become damaged, either through decay, trauma or another problem.

1.    There Is Noticeable Discoloration

Visible discoloration is one common warning sign of a range of dental problems, the most common of which is cavities. This discoloration can appear as white patches on the surface of teeth, possible indication that the enamel has worn away, exposing the dentin beneath it. It could also be grey or black lines, especially along the crevices of teeth, which are often the first part to become decayed.

Even a yellow film on the surface of the teeth could be a warning of a burgeoning issue, like a cavity that will likely require a dental filling.

2.    You Can’t Eat or Drink Without Discomfort

While some sensitivity when enjoying hot or cold items is common, and not necessarily a symptom of a cavity, if you are experiencing sudden or extreme discomfort when trying to enjoy meals or drinks, it could be a sign that decay has occurred.

Negative changes in your comfort are generally signs that a dental appointment is in order, particularly if the pain is moderate to severe.
